6 Figure Hair Extension Artist & Educator, Tasharra Tucker, Giving Stylists the $100K/year Blueprint

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasharra Tucker.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

Thank you so much!! I’m honored to speak with you today!!!! My name is Tasharra Tucker and I am the owner of tHAIRapy SALON & EXTENSTION STUDIO. I have created a plant based hair care line for melanated women (Allomelanin) and a textured hair extension line (Blended Textures). I am a daughter, sister, friend, mother, and wife, and business owner (listed in the order that they occurred)! With a so many hats to juggle things can get challenging, but to get here I had to learn to keep going even when no one else understood , supported, or wanted to join me. I’ve been a licensed Cosmetologist for 16 years and this road has not always been easy or profitable!! I have been a booth renter, suite renter, commissioned stylist, and salon owner so I been on every side of the fence when it comes to trying to figure out how to make the most out of this journey. In every position…Education has always been key! What you KNOW is how you GROW. Knowing this…I fell head first into learning all I could from some of the industries top beauty professionals. I attended trade shows, virtual classes, hand on classes, conferences, and had plenty of trial and error in the salon (my apologies to those that had to endure some of those errors!????????

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Success most certainly DID NOT come easy!!!!!! I’ve had people come and go, I’ve lost money on investments that I just knew were a sure thing, I’ve moved to fast, I’ve moved to slow and missed opportunities, I’ve been hurt by people that I’ve admired, I’ve had ideas stolen from me that I’ve shared, I’ve doubted myself, I’ve had to battle with trying to find a balance between work and life, and I know that the road to true success doesn’t stop. So my current challenge is convincing myself that although I have 13 ideas a minute….I need to learn to focus on one at a time, delegate tasks, trust people with my vision, and not get frustrated when it’s not happening in my timing.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

So as I stated earlier, I’m a 16 year licensed cosmetologist and I’ve done almost everything but this year I decided to dedicate my time and focus to becoming an Extension Artist and Educator. I specialize in 4 different Microlink Method which include, Itips, Hidden Bead Method (Metowi), Double Weft Method, and Hand Tied Extensions. When choosing any Extension Artist you should choose someone that requires a consultation. My ultimate goal for every client is healthy hair. Most clients was to skip this very crucial step because they are anxious to get cute…but during this process the stylist is able to best determine which method is best for your texture, density, lifestyle, and price point. You don’t want to choose someone that only does the same method on everyone and doesn’t turn anyone away regardless of them not being a good candidate for that particular method. So when you’re ready for someone that doesn’t mind telling you no for the health of your hair but gives you a yes to an alternative in the meantime…I’m Your Girl! As far as other stylists coming to work with me or taking one of my classes… I actually wrote an ebook that lists 5 things they should know before taking an extension class with anyone. I got burned a few times and I decided to write it to help others not be so quick to jump to take a class from someone just because they may be popular.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

From my personal experience, my best advice for those who desire to find success in their business life…I would create a checklist of the people and things that would help me get there!! For me, it would be a strong relationship with God; making time for myself and family time; a mentor/coach; lawyer; an accountant; graphic designer on retainer; social media manager; a personal stylist if you aren’t a fashionista; a team/staff; and making a schedule for my personal and business life. These are all the people and things that I feel that I did late because you don’t know what you don’t know. Once I found out what I needed, I felt I didn’t have the money to hire these people. But doing so would have accelerated my progression by lightening my load so that I could focus on what I was good at instead of wasting time trying to fill all of those shoes.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success to me is good physical health, emotional wellness, a strong marriage, a relationship with God, financial freedom, and being able to show my son that hard work, dedication, and collaboration will take you much farther than you can go alone. Adding to that list from a stylist/educator stand point, success is being able to reach and teach hundreds if not thousands of other beauty professionals how to reach their definition of success through my extension courses. Helping them build their personal and business credit, teaching them marketing, and how to properly set up and operate a business.

What’s next for you?

One of my first goals is to build a team that I can share the burden and success of growing my business and my brand. Then to get to the schmoney…. I would like to make investments in creating streams of income that don’t require me to be hands on on a daily basis such as multiple international Airbnb’s, salon suites franchise, digital beauty school, and drug testing center. I’ll use the income from these to fund some of my passions such as a beauty summer camp for preteens and teens that have a love for all things beauty, mentorship academy for beauty pros to build their confidence and their brand, community outreach in my home town, an emotional wellness conference, stylists retreats, and real estate investments. By 4th quarter 2022 I would love to retire from behind the chair to be able to focus on these tasks full time.

Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?

Omg! YES!!! Let’s Link Up! I developed an extension course called the $100K Link Up where I will teach other stylist how to make $100K+/ year as an extension specialist.
