Today we’d like to introduce you to Franky Baca.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Thank you for having me! So, I started my company, Franky Baca, in 2014. I am a self-taught fashion designer. I grew up in northern California where very few fashion programs exist. I had no experience. I was always drawn to art, however, and because I couldn’t afford to get into an expensive art school outside of California, I decided to research how products are made. I’d say I have had moderate success, My products were picked by a few stores. I was invited to dozens of fashion shows across the U.S and have been featured in major publications along the way. As I progress within my career I am constantly asked how did I get started working in fashion? I realized the easiest and best way I could give back to my fellow artist was to write a simple and entertaining book, so I did just that and my book became a best seller! I am here to talk about how anyone from anywhere can get started on their dream career!
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Many people grow up with aspirations of working as a designer, as a model, actress, or artist and don’t know where to begin. I was the exact same way! Like I mentioned earlier, northern California doesn’t have very many fashion programs. Like most other people, I didn’t know anybody who worked in the industry, but I was curious enough to find out what it would take. Fashion and entertainment are some of the most competitive fields to work in, designing particularly, and not to mention how expensive it can be if you don’t know what you are doing. What I learned is that it is possible. I followed my dreams, there are simple steps we all can follow, and you will learn how all these fields work together, and the best part is you can get started any age, from any location!
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I specialize in fashion, but have worked as an actor, model, photographer, graphic designer, marketer, personal assistant, and more! One of the things I speak about in my book is wearing multiple hats and learning as much as you can. It is important to know what everybody does. The more you learn about other people’s jobs around you, the easier your job becomes. I consider myself a pure artist at heart, labeled a designer but I am drawn to creative inspiration. So when I am working in other aspects of the job I try to be as creative as possible, learning this is what makes us different. What you will learn from us is something that isn’t taught in school, and even on the job, these critical thinking techniques that keep you ahead of the competition.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
It sounds corny and obvious too, but you just can’t ever give up. You must be consistently trying to improve. Being real with yourself, and that means sticking to your goals. I try to compare it to something most everybody can relate to, like working out. You only see the results when you are committed.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Having a well-defined goal, setting out, and achieving that goal with little compromise. I say “little” because sometimes you accomplish better things along the way. It takes time to achieve your goals, and then you evolve in the process. I think if you are working toward something and because of that work you are also happy with the person you are, well that’s success too.
What’s next for you?
I am going to keep pursuing my goals, working to help people who want to work in the fashion and entertainment industry. I’m going to create art to inspire generations after me.
