Exclusive Interview with Dr. Obom Bowen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Obom Bowen.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I am originally from Guyana and moved to the United States with my family when I was 13. I was always the kid to take a penny, shine it up, punch a hole in it, turn it into a necklace and sell it for $5, so once we got here, I saw so many new possibilities for who I could become in business that I immediately committed to my growth and development. The first decision I made for myself was to join the United States Marine Corps. In the Marines, I learned more about leadership and discipline, which enhanced my desire to learn even more about business and relationships. After retiring, I met my wife, Ana, while making our first attempts at success through the Network Marketing industry. Together we used 80% of our earned income to create the businesses that we now own and operate. Throughout this process I learned that most people want the convenience of success without the inconvenience of the work required. This is where I developed the 4 key principles I operate from: Positive Expectancy, Applied Faith, Ever Increasing Gratitude and Extreme Value Delivery. I have always given more than I was paid for, I was grateful for the opportunity to do it, it required the belief to make things happen (the faith), and the hard work to make it happen (the expectancy). Most people consider themselves a failure because they haven’t defined what success looks like for them.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Success definitely did not come easy for me. As the youngest of 13, I had to fight for attention and the right to succeed since birth. Once I got to the military, I had to learn how to quickly adapt and excel in extremely chaotic circumstances. While in the Marines, I was blown up 3 times in Iraq and was paralyzed. I had to retrain my body and my mind to perform at my personal standards. After willing myself to walk, I became homeless and lived in my car with my future wife, Ana, for 5 years while building our Network Marketing business and instilling the belief in ourselves that we were creating a prosperous future and creating what would later become the Today Is The Day Philosophy for Next-Level Growth and Achievement. Along the way, there have been so many challenges that I’ve overcome because of understanding the process of knowing what works, abandoning what doesn’t and always knowing the difference.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

We specialize in simplifying the complicated. There is no competition because the so-called “competition” doesn’t consider their continued growth nor the continued growth of their customers, which reflects in their lives and their businesses. I believe in extreme value delivery and value is where we start the conversation. There is no competition because we deliver more value than paid for, whereas the competition is always looking to extract more financially from their customer. Everyone is focused on the sale today; we focus on lifelong clients and relationships. Our focus is how we help our clients to win now and, in the future, and because we do that, we set our customers on the path that is best for THEM. For example: a typical client comes to us confused. We provide clarity, which leads them to focus on the big picture and the day-to-day process, while we provide the tools, the techniques and the mindset to accomplish their goals. Because we care about THEIR end result, we ensure we are there to see it through together. If there was another company out there that does what we do, they would be the competition, but because we’re the only ones doing it, everyone else is simply modeling parts of our process and calling it a business. To summarize competition, you have to complete your client instead of competing with your client.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

In truth, what we help our clients understand is this one fundamental fact: the secret to your success lies within YOU. Everyone comes to us for the answers. We don’t give them the answers, we show them within themselves where the answers were hiding. They couldn’t find it before because they lacked clarity and purpose. So, what I would say to someone is find your purpose, make a plan of action, and never stop until you see the results you desire because success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. Never measure your results with someone else’s ruler; that is guaranteed disaster.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success means, first you have to embrace the suck – meaning, failure is not the opposite of success; it is PART of success. Success, for me, is moving from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. The problem with most people is that they see success as a destination when it truly is a journey. Even though, to date, I have succeeded, I am still in the process of “suck-ceeding” because on a larger scale, my concern is moving from one success to another, which really is moving from failure to failure while keeping the enthusiasm of succeeding. In short – success is not a point of reference, but a continuous process of mental, spiritual, financial and relational growth. Lastly, my focus is always providing more value, and creating more impact for better profits.

What’s next for you?

What’s next for me is solidifying my legacy because I have already been through phases of my life where goal achievement was the main focus. From there, I grew into purpose and meaning and realizing what my true gifts were. At this stage in my life, I have a grandson on the way and am mainly concerned with how I will be remembered after I am gone. So, what’s next for me is simply fighting to preserve my legacy. The perfect example is in 5 generations from now, what will my family say about me? 5 generations from now, what will the world know about me? Everything I do is to preserve that.
