Anger can remain long after the circumstances that created it have passed. For some people, the memories surface in relationships or moments of uncertainty. Others recognize the emotional weight only when a major life event forces them to reconsider the past.
Kerri Hermary spent years helping individuals explore those experiences through Gamma Healing, a spiritual practice she developed during her career as an intuitive teacher and mentor.
Then, in September 2022, she received a diagnosis that brought her own unresolved emotions into focus.
The stage 3 triple negative breast cancer survivor is now sharing that experience through a keynote presentation examining emotional resilience, personal accountability, and the difficult work of moving beyond painful experiences.
Known as Kerri the Button Lady, Hermary hopes her story will encourage audiences to reflect on the emotional burdens they continue to carry.
When the Past Becomes Part of the Conversation
Hermary’s keynote draws heavily from her experience in an abusive marriage.
She describes years of mental and physical abuse, followed by a divorce that ended the relationship but did not immediately resolve her anger.
Seeing her former husband continue with possessions and a lifestyle they had once shared brought feelings of resentment to the surface.
Those emotions became particularly significant to Hermary after her cancer diagnosis.
She recalls discovering two noncancerous breast lumps during her marriage. Seven years after the divorce, a third lump was diagnosed as cancer.
Hermary came to interpret the timing through her spiritual beliefs about unresolved emotions and physical well being.
Although she personally associates her illness with years of anger, research has not established that such emotions cause breast cancer. Her interpretation is best understood as part of the meaning she has drawn from her experience.
What followed was a period of medical treatment and intense personal reflection.
The Gamma Healing Approach
Gamma Healing is central to Hermary’s professional work and the message she now brings to audiences.
Developed through her years as a spiritual mentor, the practice focuses on identifying emotional experiences that Hermary describes as stored cellular memories.
She believes that exploring those experiences can help individuals recognize persistent patterns of fear, resentment, and self doubt.
Her teaching encourages people to examine their responses to difficult memories and consider whether those responses continue to influence their present lives.
For Hermary, the practice became especially personal during cancer treatment.
She underwent approximately three months of chemotherapy and later a double mastectomy. During that time, she continued using Gamma Healing as part of her emotional coping process.
She also experienced a prolonged period of difficulty eating, which she recounts as part of the physical hardship of her illness.
An ultrasound subsequently showed substantial tumor shrinkage. Hermary recalls being told after surgery that there was no remaining evidence of cancer.
These medical outcomes cannot be attributed to Gamma Healing based on her personal account. The practice is not an established cancer treatment.
A Different Conversation About Resilience
Hermary’s keynote invites audiences to examine how they respond to experiences they cannot change.
A conversation with a fellow breast cancer survivor became a turning point in her own thinking.
When Hermary asked why she had developed cancer, her friend encouraged her to consider what she intended to do next.
The question stayed with her.
She began focusing more deliberately on the decisions within her control, including how she wanted to process her anger and approach the future.
Her presentation explores the distinction between acknowledging painful experiences and allowing those experiences to define one’s identity indefinitely.
It is a subject with relevance beyond cancer, particularly for audiences interested in personal growth, overcoming adversity, and rebuilding confidence after difficult circumstances.
Expanding Her Work Through Public Speaking
Hermary brings 17 years of spiritual mentorship experience to her speaking work.
She is the author of the 2019 bestseller Energy & Weight Loss and founder of Kerri the Button Lady Academy, an online community dedicated to intuitive development and spiritual education.
Her keynote introduces a more personal dimension to that professional background.
By discussing cancer, abuse, anger, and recovery, Hermary hopes to create conversations that encourage people to reconsider their relationship with difficult experiences.
Her story does not offer a universal formula for recovery. Instead, it illustrates how one woman found personal meaning while navigating a serious illness and its emotional consequences.
For Hermary, speaking represents an opportunity to share that perspective with people facing challenges of their own.
