Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorin Cumberbatch.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Back in February of 2020, while living in New York, my two year old son had heart surgery. At the same time, I had found out that I needed back surgery because I had extreme back pain that affected my quality of life. The plan was for my son to be watched by our family that lived in Michigan for a couple months then come back to New York. But covid happened. Given that New York had the highest hospitalization of covid cases, my surgery was canceled. My insurance allowed me to have surgery in Michigan and with lockdown, I had a lot to think about the better opportunities here for my son such as a huge backyard, school, community, things of that sort. After applying to many banking jobs that I had 3 years of experience with, I had no success of getting employment. However, I did have an esthetician license, which meant I can work on all things skin, with one year of experience working on family and friends. So this is where I decided my career would go. During quarantine i spent my nights building skin studio 211, Setting up the website, trying to find the right booking site, logo, etc, everything business. I eventually found a suite and it just took off from there. Using only social media i promoted like crazy to everyone in lansing and they supported me. so thank you to those people!
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Honestly, the real challenge has been trying to stay relevant and on top. So many people try to come for me and follow the exactly things I do. I take notice easily but that just pushes me to try something different. One thing I can say is my brain always finds something new to make sure I stay on top. I work hard for this business and I really love my career.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I personally specialize in eyebrows and acne. I can perfect anyone’s eyebrows if they allow me, as well as, acne if they listen and follow the things I say. Now, Skin Studio 211 specializes in facials, waxing, and lashes. I can tell you who to go to for each service to get the best of the best. This doesn’t mean others can’t do it but going to this person on my team she specializes in it. People should choose Skin Studio 211 because we truly love what we do and if we do make a mistake, yes a mistake because we are human, we will want to fix it until we get it right if you allow us to. We will refund you at any point if you are unhappy (with exception) so that we can give the ultimate best customer service. And we are true to ourselves. We won’t judge you or anything. You won’t get a fake vibe here.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
To find what you are supposed to do in this world. Stop looking at others and seeing their success and trying to copy. If it is hard to do that’s not what you are supposed to do. You know when you found what you are supposed to do that will bring you success when that thing takes off way faster than you expected and it comes super easy. Also, sometimes you are doing what you are supposed to be doing but you have the wrong people on your team or your at the wrong location doing it. I moved to Michigan and doing the same thing I was doing in New York but here in Michigan i’m in my right season. I had to move locations to do exactly what I’m supposed to do. Touch the right people here not New York.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success is honestly to me, happiness. It’s when you can wake up everyday and enjoy what you do, where you are, and what you have.
What’s next for you?
Who knows! I’m always up to something. I never know what’s next for me. I do however would love to have people who want to join my team and actually help me grow Skin Studio 211. I want to build a franchise of Skin Studio 211. I’m glad I found Jazzmin Evans because she sees my vision, she knows what i’m capable of, and she knows that I can take her to what she dreams. She’s comfortable in herself to know what us together is a force. And I need more people like that!
