What if the greatest leadership skill of the next decade is not technology or strategy—but cultural fluency?
That question drives Elda Acevedo Estefania, founder of InterCulturaling, a business rooted in helping people navigate culture with greater awareness, intention, and care. Her mission spans industries—from education and healthcare to business and community leadership.
Personal Story, Global Relevance
Raised in Puerto Rico and educated across three countries, Elda has spent her life immersed in intercultural environments. Her background in communications and two decades of cross sector experience—from classrooms to boardrooms—position her as a unique voice in today’s dialogue on diversity, inclusion, and connection.
“For years, I lived the work without a name for it. When I coined InterCulturaling—a verb that describes the act of communicating with someone from another culture—it gave me the clarity to teach it, scale it, and share it.”
Early Challenges and Inner Anchors
Like many founders, Elda struggled at first with translating her intuitive skills into a clear offering.
Culture is often invisible—and therefore difficult to explain, especially in spaces that prefer quick metrics over deep understanding.
She wore every hat—marketer, curriculum developer, strategist—while still teaching full time. But what kept her going were the moments. “When a team sees what they could not see before—that is the impact. That is success.”
Reinventing the Framework
One of the biggest shifts came when Elda stopped shrinking her vision to fit institutional labels.
“I was told to pitch as DEI or SEL or multicultural consulting—but none of those boxes fit.”
Naming her framework InterCulturaling unlocked a new approach entirely. “It is not about fixing people. It is about helping them see. And once they do, everything changes.”
Advice for Founders and Change Agents
“Do not wait for the masses to validate your idea. Begin with what you know is true,” she says.
Her message is particularly resonant for founders from underrepresented communities. “Your lens is valuable. Your lived experience is data.”
Work Rooted in Real Life
InterCulturaling is more than a brand. It is a worldview that Elda lives every day.
Her daughter once asked, “Can we have a conversation without you saying ‘well, culturally…’?”
Her answer? Probably not. “Because this is not separate from life. It is how I live.”
The Road Ahead
Elda is building an online learning platform, launching a five month cohort model for organizations, and deepening partnerships with professionals across sectors who want to lead with cultural humility.
She also plans to write more and take the InterCulturaling message global through speaking engagements.
“The time is right. The message is clear. And the need has never been greater.”
