Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Tyes.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Hi! Thank you for having me. I’m Imani also known as Willing Soul Beauty. I began my career in the beauty industry at Paul Mitchell the School Cleveland. After graduating in 2015 as a master cosmetologist, I worked as a hairstylist for 4 years. I expanded my skill set by branching out into waxing at The European Wax Center. Once I got the hang of waxing, it became easier for me . Waxing is a vulnerable service to offer so I felt more comfortable and grounded once the skill was set and the connection with my clients began to foster.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
I have definitely overcome challenges. One specifically was relocating from Cleveland, OH to Atlanta which can be intimidating. Atlanta has a lot of heavy hitters. My initial thought was to begin doing hair some days and waxing on others until someone planted the seed in me to continue waxing. God truly had different plans for me. While settling here in Atlanta, my clientele grew and so did my love for waxing. It felt good being able to help my clients look and feel great while also pouring into them as they confided in me in a way they probably wouldn’t in other settings with others.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I specialize in brazilian waxing, vajacials, natural eyebrow artistry, and I have a skincare and bodycare system that helps clear acne as well as treat your skin post waxing. I create a great experience for my clients. It’s a priority to make my clients feel comfortable during a painful service which is something they didn’t experience prior to Willing Soul Beauty. I believe client interaction and retention is important. I am able to reach my clients while they are in a vulnerable space and that is a gift of mine. While maintaining professionalism, I speak life into them. They come to me in one way and leave brand new. I’ve become their friend and I view them as my babies. They trust me and choose not to go anywhere else.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
I recommend others develop a strong relationship with God and with themselves. When you are guided from the source, you have no choice, but to be on the right path especially when you’re self aware. Finally, measure your success without comparing it to others. Comparison is the thief of joy. Pace yourself and be patient with yourself. Your journey will shape who you become to experience what God has for you. Having a relationship with God, being self aware, and taking care of your mental health contributes to discipline and consistency. Show yourself grace and know that success won’t happen overnight.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success means God being pleased with everything I’m doing and living for His will- never my own. Success includes freedom to live out the desires of my heart, everyone around me benefiting from my upcomings, reaching back to those who guided me along the way, following through with everything I told my mom I’d accomplish, and making myself as well as others around me proud.
What’s next for you?
I am focused on growing my skincare brand and teaching the fundamentals of waxing. I love my clients, but I know that God has a bigger purpose for me which is to teach. I want to teach others the skills of waxing and guide them on how to build a successful business. I want to help others clear their acne. Acne can hinder us from being our best selves. It’s my goal to pour into others business wise and when it comes to skincare.
