From IRS to Ally: Pietro Canestrelli’s Mission to Humanize Tax Law for Businesses

Tax law is a world often defined by impersonal codes and bureaucratic walls — but for Pietro Canestrelli, it’s deeply human.

After 6 years working inside the IRS and prestigious law firms, Canestrelli saw something most others didn’t: the devastating emotional toll that unresolved tax issues take on individuals and business owners. That realization propelled him to co-found America’s Tax Defender, Inc., alongside his wife Kristen, with a mission-driven focus on combining legal precision with empathy.

“We practice law with passion and compassion,” Pietro explains. “People who have tax problems are people first — not just numbers.”

Redefining the Taxpayer’s Experience

Too often, taxpayers feel like they’re facing a mountain of paperwork and penalties with no rope and no guide. Pietro and Kristen set out to change that, not just by representing clients, but by making sure they feel seen, heard, and defended every step of the way.

For the first five years, Pietro operated solo — a one-man powerhouse helping people climb out from under IRS scrutiny. But four years ago, the couple made the bold decision to scale their vision.

“That was the turning point,” he recalls. “We rebranded as America’s Tax Defender to serve more people, better and faster.”

Fueling Purpose Through Personal Tragedy

Beneath the professional polish lies a personal tragedy that continues to shape Pietro’s work: the suicide of his brother in 2008. His brother had been burdened with tax problems — a burden Pietro, despite his expertise, couldn’t alleviate in time.

“The IRS didn’t cause my brother’s death,” he says quietly. “But they didn’t help him live, either. Every client I help now, I see my brother in them.”

That moment didn’t just inspire a business model — it became the emotional engine behind it.

Building with Courage and Calculation

His advice to aspiring business owners? Be bold, but be smart.

“It’s courage and math,” he says. “Have the courage to act, but use the math to verify that your decisions make sense. Passion without numbers is just a hobby.”

That philosophy helped guide the firm’s exponential growth — and has helped countless clients navigate some of the most intimidating financial situations of their lives.

Looking Ahead: Big Impact, Bigger Vision

The next chapter is all about scale and savings. Pietro is on a mission to help save tens of millions of dollars in taxes for American businesses over the next two years.

“We’ll get there through audit defense and proactive tax planning,” he shares. “It’s not just about defense anymore — it’s about building strategic offense.”

Pietro Canestrelli isn’t just fighting the IRS. He’s fighting for the people forgotten by the system — with heart, brains, and an unshakeable purpose.
