The Future of Hiring: AI and Automation Are Changing the Game

Eternally driven forward by the constant competition between people and businesses, the job marke is always undergoing some kind of change. In fact, as of this moment, it is tighter than ever, and to accommodate for that, companies are leaning on tech to cut through the noise and pin down top talent before the competition has a chance to take it. It’s a game-changer, no doubt, but it’s not all smooth sailing, as AI can sometimes cause as much trouble as it solves. That being said, it doesn’t have to affect you, so here’s what you need to know to adapt to the AI takeover and stay at the top of your game.

AI’s Running the Show (Sort Of)

The main use AI has seen on HR departments across the market is to handle a lot of the “grunt work”, and thus give recruiters some room to breathe. Think applicant tracking systems (ATS) which can scan your resume and match your skills to specific positions, all the while ranking you for compatibility. That’s hours of manual work taken off recruiters’ laps, who can focus their attention on the candidates that represent a better match from the getgo.  For said candidates, it can also mean faster responses and more transparency on the hiring process.

Chatbots are a part of it too, booking interviews, asking custom and often sharp questions, and  answering applicant gripes on the spot, letting candidates solve their doubts and get clarity with less anxiety.

Predictive Analytics: Hiring with Eyes Wide Open

And AI is not just being used to sort resumes but also to predict applicant behavior. Specialized tools are being used to dig into past performance, behavior, and culture fit to flag certain patterns and eliminate unwanted surprises. As one may imagine, that removes a lot of the uncertainty from workspace relations and cultural fit, as it makes it harder for people to just “say the right things” to get the job. It also represents a significant improvement on employee retention, since they get screened before even being admitted.

Automation: Less Busywork, More Impact

Automation isn’t stopping at the recruitment phase either, and we have several tools being used for onboarding, assessments and every other aspect of work. Most paperwork has already gone digital, and training has become significantly streamlined, AI tweaks on video interviews are now reading faces and voices, giving interviewers a sharper read on an applicant’s communication skills, although that raises questions of privacy and bias risks.

Humans Still Matter—Deal With It

Although AI is being widely adopted and does show a lot of potential in its flexibility, those only serve to increase the value of soft skills and that “human touch” . So, while businesses will increasingly implement AI to crunch the numbers and spot trends, those will still fall into the hands of real people who will now have more accurate data to act upon. If businesses are able to balance these two aspects, the market might just move towards hiring processes that are both kind and efficient.

Get Ready—This Isn’t Stopping

AI and automation are only getting bigger, so job seekers, present and future, need to be ready. If they understand the tech, they’ll understand what strategies work best, so now is the time to get educated on how this technology works. And when it comes to helping people adopt the best strategies to get their dream job, no one does it better than hiresmart cares.
